Quite by accident, I wound up as a computer programmer, back when they were hiring warm bodies off the street to learn about computers, and accounting was still a man's job for which girls need not apply. It had its ups and downs, but overall, I had a great 40-year career. I can't think of anything else that would have been more fun, could have maintained my interest and continually provided new challenges over the long haul.
While living in Battle Creek, MI, in the early 70's, a friend talked me into going on a river trip through the Grand Canyon. In that two weeks, I fell in love with wild rivers, pretty canyons, and hippie boatmen. Two years and five trips later, I packed up and moved to Salt Lake City, the jumping off place to what I consider "God's Country" (no, that is not a reference to the local dominant religion about which I know little and understand less). I still pinch myself that I get to live in this great place with long summers and short winters, no mosquitoes, little rain, and endless outdoor activities. Over the years I have hiked, biked, run rivers, camped, skied, snow-shoed, and back-packed. I still hike regularly, year round, following my dog up mountain trails. It's disappointing that I can't make it to the peaks any more, but my knee replacements have me outside and moving, and that's the most important.
Now retired, I love having days with nowhere to go and all day to get there. I knit and listen to books on CD, take the dog for a run, work in my garden, and enjoy time with friends. In between, I'm the self-appointed neighborhood busybody, check in with my community activist friends to keep up on what the city and county are up to, and try to make my corner of the world a little friendlier for everybody. Life is good.
Married, divorced, no kids.
Sorry to miss the reunion, but I just couldn't make it work between commitments made a year ago. There will be more than enough Pillings there:)
I look forward to catching up with you online.
